Review: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

eleanor and park

Inner Cover Book Summary: “Eleanor…Red hair, wrong clothes.  Standing behind him until he turns his head.  Lying beside him until he wakes up.  Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough…Eleanor.  Park…He knows she’ll love a song before he plays it for her.  He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line.  There’s a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises…Park.  Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds – smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.”

RATING *5/5 STARS*

Ahhhh, this book ruined me!  My heart was broken and put back together again!  Eleanor & Park is such a good book!  It gives me hope for the future!

I was able to deeply identify with Eleanor!  She has red hair, is a little overweight, and is scared to open up and love.  Eleanor takes care of her siblings before herself, makes sure they are safe.  She is amazing!

Park is the perfect yin to Eleanor’s yang.  He is sweet, caring, and loyal.  I do think that he could have handled several situations differently, though.  There were some things he did more for himself than for Eleanor, even though he said it was for her.

I enjoyed the dual viewpoints.  For me, they provided additional insight for the plot and characters.  The love story was cute!  It progressed naturally, not like the love-at-first-sight books.  The ending took me by surprise.  I hadn’t seen it coming.  I won’t say more; I don’t want to spoil it for you.

Eleanor & Park made me fall in love with Rainbow Rowell’s writing even more than I was.  I highly suggest reading it!  Drop me a comment if you’ve read Eleanor & Park or if you have any other comments!
